Today we took Nolan to his first movie in a theater and it was awesome. We went to the Bluelight Cinemas, a cheap movie theater that shows movies that are almost or already out for purchase. I thought it would be a good test environment in case it didn’t go well and we had to vacate early.
We saw Big Hero 6. He was too short to sit in his own seat and see the screen over the chairs in front of him, so he sat on Ryan’s lap through the movie. We got popcorn. It was great. HE was great; quiet & totally focused on the movie. He hugged Ryan during the sad or touching parts. It was cute to watch his little hand reach into the popcorn bag without diverting his eyes from the big screen. And then to hear him process the movie afterward and repeatedly say, “That was fun! I want to go back and watch another movie,” was precious.
I can’t tell you how many times I made a point to watch him and mentally capture snapshots for the memory I was building. The three of us had a great time and I hope that in 5, 10, 20, or 30+ years, the memory remains. It’s a good one.
